Student
Discipleship at
Church of the Holy Spirit is a vital part of our parish
life. While many "youth groups" and other student ministries tend to be entertainment-driven,
we exist to change lives not only for the moment, but to ground students in a lively
evangelical Faith, to equip for the joys and challenges of life-long
discipleship!

Mike Yaconelli, the founder of modern youth ministry, said in a
2003 youthworker article, "The success of youth ministry in this country is an illusion...So
let's be honest. Youth ministry as an experiment has failed. If we want to see the
church survive, we need to rethink youth ministry."
Student
discipleship at CHS is our
attempt to rethink youth ministry. We seek to prepare and empower students for a lifetime of
serving our Lord Jesus Christ.

FOR STUDENTS
GRADES 6 - 12
All students are invited to be part of a number of large-group gatherings
scheduled throughout the fall and winter. All students are invited to join the acolyte corps,
our primary way for student service in the parish.Students may also participate in a monthly
Eucharist with special student emphasis, which will be celebrated by our clergy, Fr. Briane
Turley or Fr. Jason Miller. Other fun activities will accompany these liturgies, such as
programs and seasonal parties.
FOR STUDENTS
GRADES 8 - 12
These
students are invited not only to participate in the large group activities above, but also to
take part in two 8-week Bible Studies, designed to deepen the student's foundation in the great
teachings of the Christian tradition, as well as the immeasurable depths of Holy
Scripture.

This features two studies created
by acclaimed Anglican pastor and teacher, John Stott. We begin with six-week study of
Jesus himself, with Christ: Basic Christianity. The second study digs into the New
Testament, exploring Paul's second letter to his young student, Timothy: 2 Timothy:
Standing Firm in Faith.
FOR STUDENTS
GRADES 10 -
12
In
addition to the above groups, these students are given the opportunity to commit to a rigorous,
two-year discipleship curriculum known as Didache, from the Greek word"to teach." Didache
includes in-depth Bible study, reading and writing, as well as commitment to service, spiritual
disciplines and leadership responsibilities in the parish. There is an application process for
this group, including short essays and certain memorization requirements (books of the Bible,
etc.). Those interested in applying for this program should contact Fr.
